Target Audience

Why You Need to Find Your Target Audience

For any business that is just starting out, one of the most important things to do when developing an online marketing and SEO strategy is to determine what your target audience is. You may think that just marketing to the general public will be enough, but with the vastness of the internet, you won’t be able to really reach the people who will be most interested in your products or services. Here’s why you should sit down with your marketing team and find your target demographic, stat.

It makes SEO easier.

As an SEO company, we know from experience that online marketing is much easier when you know exactly who you are trying to reach. No matter how unique or even strange your target audience is, there is still likely a group of enthusiasts online that are searching for it. When you know exactly who you are trying to reach, that makes it much easier for us to research exactly which keywords are being searched by this demographic.

You can connect on social media.

Another great advantage of finding your niche is that you can connect with them on social media and network very easily. There’s a Facebook group for virtually everything these days, so you can promote your products and services to people who will be receptive by finding the social media groups or sites where your audience hangs out. For example, if you are an accountant who caters to young professionals who need tax services, Facebook or Twitter is the perfect way to find these people and even offer them a good deal on your services.

You can conduct consumer research.

The best way to improve your product or service is to find out what the people who are using it actually want to see. However, this can be very difficult if you don’t know exactly who is using your products. Different demographics have totally different needs. Take the above example of a tax accountant. Young professionals are going to need completely different tax services than parents with several children, for example, and they also need to be communicated with in completely different ways. However, once you decide who your audience is, you can contact them online and find out exactly what you can do to make your services more effective.

You can advertise more effectively.

This should hopefully be a no-brainer, but we’ll say it anyway: if you have a specific audience in mind, it is much easier to advertise in a way that will resonate with them than trying to connect with the general public. Make an effort to really get inside their heads and find out what they want to see in a product, and determine what media channels they use the most. For example, a younger demographic is likely much easier to reach through social media, while older consumers are still paying attention to traditional television and print ads. Targeted content has also been taking over the internet these past few years, so you can use that to your advantage by working with programs like Google AdWords to promote your content to people that really want to see it.

You don’t need to be an SEO hero to understand SEO, but make sure you understand your audience
